CASE STUDY
CONTINENTAL DRIFT EXPEDITONS

THE MISSION
To create a brand identity system that would communicate the spirit of an international kayaking venture and build trust with both locals and travelers.
Continental Drift Expeditions needed help creating a brand identity that would communicate the spirit of their adventure and build trust with the local community, international, and domestic travelers.
They needed everything—a logo, website, business cards, brochures, and collateral materials. And they needed it to reflect not only the rugged beauty of the region but also the deep respect they had for the environment and the local culture.

THE CLIENT
Continental Drift Expeditions is a kayak tour company that offers intimate, guided adventures through lush mangrove rivers and across the waters of the Golfo Dulce. They can be found on the remote, tropical stretch of Playa Zancudo, Costa Rica. This is full-immersion into the wild. Their guests get the chance to glide past crocodiles, spot monkeys in the trees, and experience one of the most biodiverse ecosystems in the world—all from the seat of a kayak. Continental Drift is a rare gem—an experience that’s both thrilling and thoughtful, rooted in sustainability and fueled by passion.

THE PROCESS
Discovery • Research • Sketches • Wireframes • Refinement
We immersed ourselves into the client’s daily operations, Costa Rica’s geography, indigenous art, eco-tourism trends in the area, and international tour companies. We wanted to make sure our design decisions were rooted in both cultural awareness and visual storytelling.

THE OUTCOME
We expanded the brand identity to print collateral materials bringing in the natural beauty of the tours while highlighting important information. We made it easy for Continental Drift Expeditions to get information out to international tourists about their kayak tours and how to contact them. Print materials were crafted with sustainability in mind. Business cards and brochures were printed on 100% recycled paper with 50% post-consumer waste and processed chlorine-free.

THE IMPACT
Continental Drift Expeditions had the foundation they needed to grow. Local businesses quickly saw the value in having an adventure tour like this available to their guests. Restaurant owners, Airbnb hosts, and hotel managers were eager to share flyers and send customers their way—helping elevate Playa Zancudo, Costa Rica as an adventure destination.

SPECULATIVE MARKETING
If the client had a larger budget we could have extended resources to brand to water bottles that could have been taken home abroad with customers for further marketing efforts. Tourists could have been directly targeted as they entered the country via airport billboard ads. Branded event tents could have helped with inviting potential customers at local community events, and more.
